CSSC Update: Fort Lauderdale Incident – 6th January 2017

The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and the office of the National Coordinator Protect and Prepare has been monitoring events at Fort Lauderdale overnight and officers have been in contact with US authorities to identify any learning that may be pertinent to the UK.

We are confident that protective security measures and processes at UK airports are robust.  Attacks overseas do have the potential to affect the business community when travelling or operating businesses in affected countries and we encourage you to use the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website to keep yourselves up to date with relevant advice.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Lucy D’Orsi, the Senior National Coordinator for Protect and Prepare said, ‘As a matter of routine, we monitor incidents around the World as they occur and I have spoken to US authorities about this attack.  There is an ongoing investigation that will identify motives and our relationship with overseas agencies is such that we share learning where it is appropriate. At this time, we do not see this specific attack representing an enduring threat to London or UK interests.  My thoughts are with those people who will have been affected by this attack including our international emergency service colleagues who bravely intervene in such incidents and deal with their aftermaths’
