Michael has over 47 years combined service in HM Armed Forces, the Metropolitan Police Service, Corporate and Global Security Roles. In 2013, Michael moved from a highly distinguished career at New Scotland Yard as the OCU Commander of the only dedicated Counter Terrorism Protective Security Command (SO20) in the UK, into a Group Head of Operational Security and Intelligence role in a multi-national financial institution.
Prior to his role in the Corporate Sector, Michael was the Senior National Protective Security Liaison Officer (SNPSLO) for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. As part of his role, Michael authored, developed and delivered the London Olympic Counter Terrorism Protective Security Strategy, which involved extensive UK and global interagency collaboration, particularly with US Government, Federal Agencies and Police Forces worldwide.
In 2013,Michael was awarded his Doctorate, for his research into the use of Counter Terrorism legislation and powers in the protection of the communities of London and the United Kingdom, additionally, Michael has a master’s degree in business management and is a Freeman of the City of London.
In 2015, Michael launched a bespoke risk, security and crisis management consultancy (6E Consulting Ltd) working with several international organisations, in a wide range of sectors, including cultural, media, sporting, governmental and the third sector.
Since January 2017, Michael has been appointed as the Strategic Global Security Advisor to Formula 1 Motor Racing with special remit to advise the Board on all matters relating to counter terrorism, global resilience, safety and security.
Michael has authored several leadership, crisis management, protective security and terrorism related papers and articles for leading industry journals and is currently engaged on a number of high-profile security industry related boards, advisory panels and not-for-profit community projects.
